St. Louis, Missouri
Bob DeBoo is a bassist, composer, and educator based in St. Louis, Missouri, equally at home on the double bass and electric bass. An in-demand performer across jazz, classical, and contemporary music, his recent work spans an extraordinary range — from David Sanborn's Acoustic Quartet and Terence Blanchard's acclaimed opera Fire Shut Up In Your Bones to the St. Louis Symphony, Wynton Marsalis, Joe Lovano, James Carter, Geoffrey Keezer, Alarm Will Sound, Matt Wilson, Ron Miles, the 442s, and the Adam Maness Trio, among many others. He also leads his own quartet.
As an educator, Bob has developed a reputation as one of the most trusted voices in online bass education. He has created more than a dozen courses for Open Studio Jazz, covering everything from foundational technique to advanced jazz vocabulary — and has collaborated in the studio with two of the instrument's living legends: Christian McBride on Walk Like Ray Brown, Fundamentals of Jazz Bass and Beyond, and Your Sound Is Your Signature, and Ron Carter on Blueprint for Jazz Bass.
Now he's building something of his own — a dedicated home for bass education, live performance, and everything in between. He is also currently at work on his debut recording as a leader, a collection of all-original music expected in early 2027.
